ABOUT US

Our Student Organization

ALWAYS IN SOLIDARITY.png

Students for Shelters UTSG is a recognized student group operating on the University of Toronto, St. George Campus. S4S UTSG is a chapter of the upcoming Not-for-Profit organization. We are recognized through ULife and the University of Toronto Student Union. The mission of our group is to encourage the school community to take local action and donate smaller items to organizations that are not always thought of. We also participate in other forms of action to raise awareness and act in solidarity with those in need. Our community unites students from diverse backgrounds and brings them together under one common objective - helping others. In turn, we are hoping to create a lasting impact on students and others’ lives in a positive way.

We acknowledge and appreciate the traditional territory upon which we operate. This land has a long and tangled (hi)story that carries the storied footprints of the Huron-Wendat, Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River nations. Toronto has a treaty with the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, and is part of the Dish With One Spoon agreement to share the land between the Anishinaabek and the Haudenosaunee nations. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. In moving toward reconciliation we seek to polish the Silver Covenant Chain and to restore the relationship with the original peoples of this land, one based on honour and deep respect.

STUDENTS FOR SHELTERS UTSG

Change Begins With You

Students for Shelters was founded in 2019 by Hannah Benyamin and Breanna Lakhan. Since then we’ve grown as a community. When you decide to join us, you too will gain access to various events and, most importantly, to a group of like-minded individuals who are just as passionate as you are. We hope to inspire local action in our community and beyond.

S4S is a recognized campus group which focuses on donating to local shelters. The main focus is to donate items that are not usually donated such as socks, feminine hygiene products, undergarments, etc. We also aim to shed light on the different issues under-privileged communities face both locally and abroad. We want to unite students and the surrounding community, all while giving back.

Students for Shelters hopes to create a lasting impact on the lives of students, faculty, and community members in a positive way. Students for Shelters hopes to generate a spark around campus and inspire the University of Toronto community to give back. We want to advocate, inspire and unite!
